It is so hard to believe that Elisabeth is 15 years old, Emma is 9 and Eryn is 7. My, my, how time just gets away from us.
I was only able to help Christopher with a few projects around the house before the weather turned lousy thanks to Tropical Storm Lee that was a real rainmaker for the entire east coast.
As I have mentioned in the past that this was our first experience with workamping, and I must say we really enjoyed the three months here. The time has really flown by. One of the things we like most about RVing is meeting new people, and that holds true with meeting and spending some time with fellow workampers. Sharing stories of where we have traveled and the things we have seen spark renewed interest on where to travel next. There is always something to be learned, and shared when sitting around talking with fellow campers.

Branson is known for its entertainment and candidly we were very impressed with the caliber of talent. We would highly recommend taking the time to visit Branson and check out some of the shows.

Spending these past few months with my sister Cris and brother-in-law Mike has added so much to the enjoyment of this trip. It has been years since we have spent any kind of time together and it is only because of RVing that this was possible. I am so glad that they too enjoy this lifestyle.

Our departure from Branson is Sunday as we begin our journey back to Florida. As we make our way east and south we decided to try our luck at the casinos in Tunica, Mississippi. We plan on spending two days there before we continue east to visit my son Christopher and family who live near Roanoke, Virginia. We should arrive there on the first of second of Sept.. Next stop will be Dahlonega, GA where we will see our friends Roy and Susan and Paul and Debbie, then it is back to Florida where we found a campground not too far from The Villages where we will spend the next few months visiting friends and family. Of course we will also be traveling down to the Ft. Lauderdale area to see friends and family there as well.
We departed Valencia on June 1st after attending Amanda's play at her school. She played Dorothy in Wizard of Oz. She was terrific in both her singing and her spoken lines. After the play we said our goodbye's, drove back to the campground, hooked up the car and started the journey east.

Our first stop was Needles, CA where we were able to stop at a KOA that was convenient to I-40. From Needles we continued east to Holbrook, AZ. This was a campground that was also convenient to I-40, but had very little else to offer.

We had planned to make Albuqurque, NM our next stop, but about 40 miles west of Albuqurque Andrea saw signs for the Dancing Eagle Casino that offered $10 RV camping for a full hook up site (water, electric, and water). Well Andrea made a donation of $50 at the slots. She was entertained for a few hours so in the long run it was worth it. I am sure that most of you have read about the wild fires in Arizona. The smoke was quite thick in western New Mexico which make for a strange sunrise in the morning when we were ready to leave.

Our next stop was Oklahoma City, OK. We had a hard time finding a campground here as there was some sort of Little League event going on, but we did manage to find one, and once again it was convenient to I-40. It was a long day to get here, but it was worth it as we were really making good time to Branson. You have to understand that we only average about 58 - 60 MPH, and stop pretty frequently to stretch our legs, walk Angel and take a "P" break.

We arrived in Alma, Arkansas on the 6th which was only 4 hours from Branson. We decided that to push to make Branson would be a mistake. We are glad we did as the drive would have been a little stressful with lots of single lane winding roads.

So, on June 7th we arrived at Branson Lakeside RV Park at about 11 AM. My sister Cris and my brother-in-law Mike greeted us on our arrival. It was so good to see them. I was so glad that they were able to also get workkamping jobs there as well.

Our timing to be here was pretty good in that the whole area was under water due to flooding. The shame is that the flooding was because up river they had to let out water from a dam that was going to breach. Guess you could call it controlled flooding. The long and short of it is that the camp ground had to be evacuated.
By the time we got there things were pretty much back to normal. The only real sign of an issue is the the office is now a temporary trailer as the office and laundry have to be worked on before they can be used.

We have been to a number of shows here in Branson, that we have really enjoyed. We have hardly touched the tip of the iceberg with what we have seen. There are over 100 venues here in Branson so we have many more shows to see. Spending time with Cris and Mike has been really great. It is like we live on the same block in a neighborhood.

Yesterday we signed up at the Branson Rec center. It has all sorts of workout equipment, and classes to keep us fit. We are so luky to have this available to us, and plan on taking advantage of this fantastic facility.

We are in Mount Shasta, CA, and as I sit here at the computer and look out the window it is snowing. Yes, snowing. Here it is almost summer and the colder weather seems to follow us. However, we know that hot weather is not far ahead as we continue south and on June first head east for Branson, MO. So for now we should enjoy the weather. We have plenty of warm weather clothing with us so at least we can't say if was just taking up valuable space. Anyone who has an RV or boat knows that space and weight is a premium.

We began this part of our journey April 25. We said our goodbyes to the kids and headed for the Elks Lodge at Atascadero. We stayed there for a few days enjoying a wonderful park we found that had a walking path around a beautiful lake. Also, nearby is Paso Robles that has wonderful vineyards of which we stopped for a wine tasting and purchased a few bottles. We also took a ride to Morro Bay which was about a 30 mile drive. Morro Bay is noted for a huge rock that sits in the bay. It is difficult to describe, but it is beautiful to see. The day there was so windy we just could not enjoy the day, but we could enjoy what we did see.

Our next stop was Santa Cruz at an RV Resort right in the middle of the Redwoods. WOW! The trees are gigantic, and these aren't the really big ones. We arrived there on Wednesday and one of the resturants in town has a Main Lobster special for $11.95, so we made our way into town. The resturant is located right on the pier at Santa Cruz beach. After dinner we enjoyed a walk on the pier. Just beautiful. Not too far from the campground was a state park that had great trails to walk thru the Redwoods. Andrea, Angel and I enjoyed the walks and the scenery deep in the Redwoods. I was able to contact an old friend of mine that I have not seen since my 50th birthday party. We had a chance to spend some time with Nick and his wife Mary Ann to do some catching up. they have a beautiful home that is in walking distance of the town of Capitola that is a beach front community. It was ironic that it was Nicks 40th birthday. I guess it is safe to assume that Nick is quite a few years younger than me, but hey, whos counting.

Next stop: The Elks Lodge in Petaluma. Traveling through San Francisco in an RV towing a car is a little un-nerving, but going across the Golden Gate Bridge definitely keeps you on alert. Once across it was only about an hour to Petaluma and that is where we hooked up with Andrea's friend Beverly. She lives close by. It was great spending some time with her. Near by the lodge is a wonderful park that is a preserve that has walking trails around the lake and along the Petaluma River. While here I had a chance to go to a Ford dealer to change the oil and rotate the tires on the tow car. I am so glad we have a tow car because we do a lot of driving once we get to an area to do some exploring. It is very hard and expensive to do that in the RV. At about 7 MPG it is not practicle. We had a great time in the area, but after a few days here it was time to move north.

Next stop: Garberville, CA. The Redwoods here are really BIG. We took a drive to Shelter Cove that is a most interesting little town on the coast. We had a chance to see some migrating whales that travel through the area every year at this time. The road to get there had more twits and turns then any road we have ever driven on. It was only about a 30 mile drive, but it was a really slow drive. It was worth it. After a picnic lunch by a light house we headed inland to take a drive on the Avenue of the Giants. That is where we saw the Redwoods in all there splender. This is where some of the biggest as well as oldest trees in the world are located. We feel so fortunate to be able to see this. However, it is time to move on.

Next stop: Crescent City, CA. This was a very profitable stop. Nearby the campground we stoped at a casino. I'm not much for gambling, but Andrea on the other hand really loves the sounds of the machines and the whole thing. Unlike most other times, this was different. She hit on a couple of different machines winning $270. And she didn't give it back. We walked out as winners. It was time to move on really fast so we wouldn't be tempted to go back.

Next stop: Grants Pass, OR. Well we made it to Oregon. The ride to Grants Pass was just beautiful. Almost the whole way we drove parallel to the Rogue River. Gorgeous. We didn't now at that time how much of the Rogue River would be in the picture for the rest of our time in Oregon. The campgound we stayed at was right on the river so we had the sight and the sound of the river for the four days we stayed in Grants Pass. We enjoyed the relaxation by the river. However, it was time to make our way a little closer to Crater Lake so we moved on to Prospect, OR.

We stayed at a Prospect RV Resort that was about 30 miles from both Crater Lake and Diamond Lake. All I can say is that these are the most beautiful results of a very violent past. Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the US at 1,943 feet, and is about 5 miles around. Even though we are in May there is still lots of snow on the ground. It was just amazing to see. I think the snow really added to the beauty as the water is this deep blue color that was in such contrast to the white snow. After we spent some time here we then drove to Diamond Lake. We didn't know that the lake was frozen over and covered with snow, but even with that it was beautiful to see.

Before reaching Crater Lake we stopped at Rogue River Gorge. The power of the river along this section is quite iimpressive. The volume of water that comes down from the mountain snow melt is amazing. It was time to move on, and begin our journey back into California. Next up is Mount Shasta.

Mount Shasta, CA. As we made our way down I-5 Mount Shasta begins to come into view about 75 miles from the actual mountain. She stands at over 14,000 feet so it is very domineering to all its surroundings. We just got here yesterday afternoon so we haven't had a chance to really see it. As I mentioned in the beginning of this blog it had been snowing. Since I started writing is has stopped so in a little while we will head out to see if we can take a drive up the mountain. There is lots of snow on the mountain so it is hard to say what we will see. That is part of the adventure, not knowing what lies ahead. So until next time.
We had a great time being here. However, it was time to do some more traveling. Besides, it really wasn't goodbye as we will see them again in Carmel for Memorial Day weekend. We will be there for six days, and then we will head for Branson, MO. We will be doing workamping there from June 10 until mid-October. More about that later.

We spent a few days at an Elks Lodge in Atascadero which is near Paso Robles. This area is known for its vineyards which are every where you look. In Atascadero we found a park with a lake. There is a walking trail that goes around the lake. We walked around the lake that is 1.3 miles around. We did it 3 times in just over an hour (and of course Angel was with us all the way). We really enjoy walking, and try to get in at least an hour every day.

We arrived in the town of Felton which is just 7 miles north of Santa Cruz this afternoon. We are staying at a campground that is in the middle of Redwoods. It is hard to believe that trees could be this big around and be so tall. What is amazing is that these are not nearly as big as the trees further up the coast. We will be seeing them next week.
With 3 rows of seating it was very comfortable. We stayed at a Best Western on the beach in San Simeon. We stayed there a few years ago and remembered how much we enjoyed it. It is a pet friendly hotel which makes it great for us. We had an ocean view room with a fire place. Really nice. I don't know how many of you have ever been to this area of California, but if you haven't, you really need to. It is just beautiful. Just up the road from the hotel is Hearst Castle, and just beyond that is Piedras Blancas that is an Elephant Seal Vista Point. Each year in the Spring the beach is just loaded with seal pups that go through a molting process of sheding their birthday coat. What we saw when we visited was hundreds of seals just lying around, making noise and some were playing. As pups, they sure were big.
Anyone who is familiar with drums or bongos is most likely familiar with the name Remo. To make a long story short we visited their home in Cambria. The house was beautiful and view of the pacific from the back porch was just amazing. From there we followed them to their vineyard in Paso Robles which was about a 45 minute drive. Yes, I did say vineyard. Remo and his wife Ami where so gracious and showed us around their property. It was truly a once in life time expierence. They do not process the grapes, but instead sell them to Opolo Winery that produce several hundred cases of Remo Belli Vineyard Zinfandel that I must say is fantastic.

We are still in Valencia and will be until April 25 at which time we will begin our travels to northern California. We arrived here at Valencia Village RV Resort on Jan. 23, and have kept ourselves pretty busy. Our days usually begin with the three of us going for a long walk. Of course you understand that when I say the 3 of us that it includes Angel. There are so many areas to walk that are but a few minutes drive to get to. The cities and community developers really put a lot of thought (and dollars) into creating these fantastic walking/biking trails.

So far we have attended a number of shows at the College of the Canyons Theater. Andrea's son Adam is the Managing Director of the theater and is responsible for bringing in the various acts. We have enjoyed acrobats from China, a musical, "All Shook Up", a Cabaret on Valentines day that had tables set up on stage where we sat in a very intimate setting being entertained by an excellent entainer. It was really a fun evening. The show we really got into was a tribute band to Queen named Gary Mullin and the Works. They were really, really good, and had the whole audience on their feet. If we had lighters we would have been lighting them off as we were really rockin.

A few weeks ago we had a Murphy Cousins Reunion at my cousins house. He lives only about 45 minutes from where we are staying. It was great seeing them as well as my Aunt and Uncle who also live in the area.
We will be getting together again before we leave the area.

So what is ahead for us?
Yosemite National Park is high on the list as well as Napa Valley. We will be meeting Adam in Carmel on May 27 - June 2. On June 3 we start heading east to Branson, MO. Why Branson? We have decided to try "Workamping". What's that, you say? In exchange for 2 days work we get our camp site for free. Where we are staying is a city park and therefore are considered city employees. The big benny is since we are city workers we get into most of the shows for free, and some of the shows at a discount. Branson is known for it's entertainment. We feel that this should be a real fun time for us. We start June 10 and will be there until mid-October. At that point we will be heading back east. More on those plans later.

We spent 3 days exploring the area. We took a drive up to the Gila Cliff Dwellings that were incredible. The drive there from Deming is 100 miles, 30 of which is a slow drive through the mountains that were full of twists and turns. We couldn't believe the amount of snow that was on the ground. The elevation in the area is about 7,000 feet and some areas are shaded. If nothing else the snow looked pretty from a distance. When we reached the ranger station we hiked up to the cliff dwellings for a guided tour of the dwellings. It made for an interesting hike on some slippery portions of the trail that had frozen snow and though they sprinkled some dirt on the trail there were areas that were slippery.

The Dwellings were built around 1276 by the Mogollon Indians. I would encourage anyone who travels in the area to take the time to visit the dwellings. Pictures do not do justice.

Our next stop was Tempe, Arizona. We really enjoyed the area as it is a modern well planned city with lots of parks. It has several universities and is bike friendly. With Light Rail available in many areas transportation is convenient. We stayed at an Elks Lodge that was centrally located and very convenient to the interstate, shopping, and parks.

We continued west to California and spent one night in Indio, CA. This is an area that is very popular for RV'ers and is near Palm Springs. It is beautiful, but very expensive. Sunday morning (Jan. 23) we drove up to Valencia, CA which was our destination for this portion of our travel. This will be home for the next couple of months as we want to spend time with Andrea's son Adam, his wife Alma and the two little ones Amanda and Aldan. Valencia is located about 30 miles north east of LA and is considered high desert. The day time temperatures have been in the low 70's and the nights in the upper 40's to low 50's. Just perfect.

Monday we took a drive to Ventura Beach which was about a 35 minute drive through the mountains was beautiful. The mountains here are so different then those found on the east coast of the country. The drive was well worth it. The Pacific Ocean is incredible to see. We found a nice dog friendly park with a marina that was right on the ocean. Angel just loved it.

Well, that is it for now. Thank you for following us as we travel.

Miles of smiles,
STOCKTON, TX and VAN HORN, TX.I know in an earlier blog that I said I would not complain about the weather. We hoped to see so many sites in San Antonio that it is famous for. Andrea and I ventured out to the Alamo and though it is steep in history it was not what I expected. Perhaps it is because it is so built up around it and the big gift shop right in the middle of it kind of takes away from the image I had in my mind. River Walk is very impressive, but because of the cold there were very few people out enjoying it. We had lunch, and then walked along the river. You have to appreciate what went into planning it many years ago. After 3 days of nothing but very cold temperatures in San Antonio we left in pursuit of warmer temperatures.

After San Antonio we stopped in Ft. Stockton to rest for the night. There is not very much going in this little town along I-10. Many years ago (1990), my brother-in-law Mike, and I stopped there on our way back to Florida from California. The Pizza Hut restaurant that he and I stopped at is still there. Believe me it is not much to speak about.

We left Ft. Stockton on Thursday and arrived in Van Horn again just for the night. We needed to just chill (pardon the pun) a little so we could walk and stretch our joints. The temperature was not bad (mid 50's). The camp ground was pretty empty (4 other RV's). It was really a nice place.

On Saturday we arrived in Deming, NM. Our initial plan was to stay here for one day. We like the RV park here and have decided to spend a few days here. The weather is really great. Yesterday it was in the 60's during the day. We were surprised how cold it got last night. The temp dropped to 29 and the water hose froze. Fortunately the water tank on board did not freeze so we were able to use the water pump on board. Tonight I will disconnect the water hose from the coach to avoid this from happening again.

Today we plan on going to a museum here in Deming that we were told was really first class, and tomorrow we plan on going to some Gila cave dwellings near Silver Springs which is about an hour away from here. The apartment caves were abandoned hundreds of years ago. It should be interesting to see. More later.
We had only planned on staying one day, but felt an extra day was needed so we could do some house keeping chores that were needed after spending 9 days in New Orleans. Hidden Lake RV Resort in Beaumont was really nice and the staff helpful and friendly. The drive to Houston was fairly easy until we got into the heart of the city. Traffic in Houston even at 2 o'clock in the afternoon was quite intense. All I can say is thank God for GPS's. We found the Elks Lodge in Stafford, TX with no problem. They have a really nice set up for traveling Elks in RV's. They have 10 spaces with full hook up of water, electric and sewer. Like other lodges we have stopped in along the way the members are very receptive to meeting members from other parts of the country.

Last night we played Bingo and had similar luck as we did at the casino in New Orleans. Oh well it is for a good cause as the Elks provide lots of support for veterans, and do lots of work with children with medical needs.

At this point we are thinking of leaving for San Antonio on Sunday, but may stay on for a few more days since the accommodations are so nice here. Tomorrow we are taking a ride down to Galveston to check out the beaches.

We found a beautiful park in Sugar Land, TX that is close to the Elks Lodge. They have a walking trail that runs 2-1/2 miles and we really enjoyed walking it as did Angel. They also have a reflection pond that was quite serene.

Until next time, miles of smiles.
While living in The Villages we enjoyed playing golf, a fun game called Pickle Ball, lots of different card games, joined a bowling league, spent lots of time with my brother Jim and Caren, and made some really good friends (Dian and Ken).

As much as we enjoyed all of these fun things there was something missing for us. It dawned on us that we missed traveling. To us travel is the adventure of discovery. So with the travel bug in our hearts we decided to sell our home, buy an RV and fulfill our desire for travel and adventure. Our timing was not the greatest as far as weather is concerned. We left Florida during a very cold Arctic cold front and the weather for the most part has either been cold or rainy. In spite of the weather we have really enjoyed ourselves. We have met some fellow travelers who too are following their desire to explore what our great country has to offer.

The temperature has warmed up so it is so nice not to have to wear those heavy jackets, gloves and hats, but rain has replace cold. Hopefully when we get a little further west we will see a change for the better. At least we are comfortable in the coach no matter what the weather is doing outside. For that we are thankful.

We leave Pontchartrain Landing RV Resort tomorrow and will be staying at an Elks Lodge just west of here. We are there for one night then on Monday morning we take Elaine to the airport, hook up the car behind the RV and head for Beaumont, TX for one night, and then onto Houston.
We are seated outside of a restaurant called The Coffee Pot. Of course the area we sat at did not have heat.

The narrow streets make for interesting driving downtown, but once we park and begin walking the sites are really worth it. The people watching has been fun and the food incredible. New Orleans should be a destination for everyone as there really isn't any other place like it.

Last night Andrea and I took a ride to Harrah's Casino downtown and we managed to contribute to the area economy. We will try our luck in a few days before we head off to Texas.
I am not sure if I will have time for any updates before the new year so just in case we want to wish everyone a happy, and most importantly a healthy New Year for 2011. We hope you can find what it is you are looking for in 2011.
Until next time, miles of smiles,
We can only wonder what this area was like before Katrina. I say that because there is so much open land along the beach as well as across the street. Plenty of property for sale but no takers. Insurance is high and it seems that no one wants to make the investment or should I say gamble. Andrea and I (and of course Angel) have taken long walks along the beach and what really strikes us is that there is just no one out enjoying the beach and water view. The area has no life to it. Guess we are so used to seeing so much activity by the beaches in Ft. Lauderdale where there is always activity between walkers, runners, bikers, and roller bladders.

We have been trying to help the local economy over at the Beau Ravage Casino by contributing our fare share into the slots. We gave the Hard Rock Casino a chance as well and as expected the results were no different.
There are many areas of the country that due to really cold temperatures and snow would prohibit the traveling we are enjoying. So, no more complaining. We have the clothes for just about any type of weather. In fact we have so many clothes we could set up a road side boutique, but we won't do that.

Right now it is a chilly 39 degrees, but will warm up to the mid 50's which is fine. Rain is not in the forecast for the next few days so we can set up our chairs outside to spend a little time outside of the coach. We might even take a bike ride later after we walk. We are fortunate that Angel really enjoys our walks. Our feeling is that is what is keeping her youg and healthy. She is 10 years old and when we meet people they can not believe she is 10. However, no one doubts our age. Hmmmm.

Tonight we plan on snuggling by a campfire and doing some star gazing. Who knows, maybe we will buy some marshmellows and toast them or better yet make smores.

My brother Jim and Caren are coming up to the area today and will spend a few days near here and then we all head to Biloxi, MS for 3 days. They are staying at the Beau Rivage, and we are at a campground just up the road.

Until next time, miles of smiles,
There is not much else to do when the weather is lousy other then to go to Walmart. So that is what we did. Yeah, I know not very exciting.

The highlight of the day was sunset at the beach. Just beautiful.
What a great first stop (I don't consider Tallahassee more than a resting spot) is this wonderful Florida Park. This is one of the most beautiful works of Nature, and man working together to create this beautiful space. The park consits of 2200 acres, and a mile long white sugar sand beach.

From our very spacious, and private camp site we can hear the roar of the Gulf. The sound is so invigerating as nothing beats the sound and feel of being near the ocean. We are close enough to walk by the beach. As you can see in the picture the sand looks like snow and of course Andrea looks like she is ready to trod through it. The temperature later in the day warmed up to 68 degrees so off came the jackets.

There are hiking trails all around the park. Today we (Angel included) hiked one of the trails and enjoyed it very much. There are also lots of biking trails that we will also be checking out.

We took a car drive on a Gulf frontage road to explore some of the sea side communities in the area. All I can say is WOW. Some of the houses and communities that have been developed are just amazing. Real Estate here is expensive, but you can really see why. We drove through Sea Side, and Water Colors just to mention a few. We are here for six days and will be doing much more exploring.

Thats it for now.

Miles of smiles,
We woke up this morning to pack up for the start of our trip and it was freezing. One of the water hoses was actually frozen solid. The winters sure seem to be getting worse every year. How far south do we have to go?

The day started early for us as we were anxious to get started so we were on the road about 7:15 and headed for Tallahassee for a stop over at the Elks Lodge. They have an area set up for RV's for traveling members of the Elks. It is a really nice set up. 'This works out nice for us as a stop over before heading on to Grayton Beach State Park near Ft. Walton Beach tomorrow. The temperature is supposed to drop to 19 degrees tonight. BURRRRRRR!!!!

We will have more tomorrow once we settle in at Grayton Beach State Park.

Until then, miles of smiles.
Charlie, Andrea, and our faithful traveling companion AngelCharlie Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00320941161923722315noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2477120335318979430.post-17933074757085646832010-11-29T06:22:00.000-08:002010-11-29T06:22:33.741-08:00JUST 15 DAYS TO GOWe are really getting pumped as December 14th gets closer. Everything is in place as far as the coach being ready. There were lots of issues with the car, but they have been taken care of and it appears that that to is ready to go.

The car was all set up for towing, but until this past Saturday we were not sure if there were going to be any problems with the wiring since we had not hooked up the car to the coach. So on Saturday we put everything away as if we were leaving the campground, brought the coach up to the parking lot area, hooked up the car behind the coach and drove around the block, brought the coach back to the campground parking lot, detached the car and parked the coach back at our camp site. Glad to report everything worked perfect. Now we now we don't have to be concerned about the set up. It has been a few years since we set up a car for towing, and it was not a problem. The big thing to remember is double checking each step. I don't want to find ourselves at our destination only to find out the car didn't make it, or we set the brake and caused a fire, or didn't to the necessary process as to not cause damage to the transmission. There are many things to do each and every time we leave a place as far as putting things away for travel mode, and take back out and reset up when we arrive. I guess in a way it is like being in the circus except Andrea and I only have to entertain each other.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Until next time, miles of smiles.
We stayed at a really nice resort in Dade City called Travelers Rest. We met up with my sister Cris and Mike and their RV Club. There were a total of 18 coaches so it was a really nice turn out. We arrived on Thursday and stayed through Sunday. The group is called the Sandpipers and is a club that is part of FMCA. FMCA stands for Family Motor Coach Association. They were a real nice group of people and Andrea and I really felt welcomed.

This was a good first time to become familiar with all of the systems that the coach has. We even managed to do a load of laundry in the
coach. Although the machine is small it will handle our everyday needs. As we travel we will find laundry facilities to take care of the bulk items. We continue to outfit the coach with items that will make us a little more comfortable while trying to weed out what we don't have to have.

We will update our plans as we firm them up. Until then.....

Miles of smiles,
Charlie, Andrea, and AngelCharlie Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00320941161923722315noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2477120335318979430.post-74924725505038935252010-10-04T08:21:00.000-07:002010-10-04T08:42:54.232-07:00Here we go again - full time RVing As much as we like it here in The Villages we just feel there is too much of this country we want to see while we have our health and of course all of our faculties. We made the decision to sell the house and all of its belongings and buy our new home on wheels. The motor coach has been named Winnie as it is a Winnebago Adventurer model 38N. With 3 slide outs she truly has all of the comforts of home including a king size bed, washer/dryer, sleeper sofa, and so on.

We have been very busy getting her ready for our travels. As is typical for me and Adrea I am sure we are packing way more then we really need, but what can I say. Perhaps as time goes on we will shed some of the things we thought we would need, but find we just don't use them. We will see how it goes.

Today we dropped off our car to get a Blue Ox base plate attached to the car so we will be able to tow it behind the coach. It makes life simpler when we stop at various points of interest as we head west.

On Thursday we will take the coach on its maiden trip to a campground in Dunellon, FL where we will be meet with my sister Cris and brother-in-law Mike to camp with their RV club. There will be about 18 motor homes in the group. We are excited to make this trip as we will really learn all of the systems on board. This is a lot more complicated then our 36' motor home we used to have.

I will update the blog as often as possible so please enjoy our travels along with us. It will be lots of fun.

Miles of smiles,
Charlie, Andrea and AngelCharlie Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00320941161923722315noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2477120335318979430.post-32155535302472739472009-01-09T09:25:00.000-08:002009-01-09T09:52:36.977-08:00Ready to hit the road (again).

Well, here we go again. Tomorrow morning we hit the road for Florida. Our goal is to be on the road by 5 AM. This will be our first camping trip in almost a year. Of course this trip will not be quite as comfortable as our previous trips in that this RV is much smaller. However, it has all the things we need, and we are being optimistic that we will be comfortable. The plan is to not spend much time in the travel trailer, but to be outside enjoying the weather and outdoor activities. We are so excited to do this. The weather here in Georgia has been really lousy for over a month, and the thought of Florida sunshine is music to our ears.

The plan as it stands now is we will be spending 2 weeks at a campground near The Villages (south of Ocala). We will be leaving the travel trailer in storage at the campground and head toward Clearwater for a few days so we can see a few friends and spend a few days with my (Charlie's) sister. Then on to Ft. Lauderdale to really enjoy a few weeks of sun and fun with family and friends. More later.

Miles of smiles.

Charlie and Andrea
Charlie Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00320941161923722315noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2477120335318979430.post-65447370786819646472008-09-24T09:39:00.000-07:002008-09-24T10:26:22.841-07:00We have been having a blast here in LAWe are so glad that we made the trip here to LA. The weather has been perfect and the gas plentiful and from what we here less expensive then back east. I guess our timing was pretty good. We traveled with perfect weather the whole trip leaving after Gustav and ahead of Ike. Both of those hurricanes were in the path of our trek west. I guess the travel God's were on our side.

One of our goals to do here was to attend the Bill Medley (Righteous Brothers) concert on Sept. 12. This was the opening act for the season and the start of the programs that Adam as the Managing Director for the Performing Arts Center at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, CA has put together. Bill Medley puts on a great concert and was a great start for Adam in his new job. He has a busy season ahead that offers something for everyone so I am sure that this year will be a big success for the college. We couldn't be more proud of Adam's accomplishment.

We have been enjoying our time with Adam, Alma and Amanda. The time seems to be just flying by. This past Sunday we took a trip down to Mexico. It only takes about 4 hours to get there. Of course with numerous pit stops we need to add a little time to the trip. We drove down to Encinada for lunch and then found a condo/hotel on the ocean to spend the night. We got one heck of a deal on a three bedroom, two bath unit for $110 for all of us. The views were incredible. It was the so enjoyable to just hang out and enjoy the scenery and the sun set. We stopped for a lobster lunch in Puerto Nuevo on our way home Monday. It was fantastic.

Our plan is to leave here Sunday to start the trip home. First night will be Flagstaff, AZ and will be stopping in Santa Fe, NM on Monday for two days. We then leave on Wednesday for home. We should be back in Georgia by Oct. 4th or 5th. We sure hope the gas situation is better by then.

I am having trouble attaching pictures for some reason, but I will post some of them in the near future.

Miles of smiles.
Charlie and AndreaCharlie Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00320941161923722315noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2477120335318979430.post-83699822759034399452008-09-09T16:35:00.000-07:002008-09-09T17:04:36.087-07:00Sedona and Grand Canyon ArizonaWow to the enth degree!! These two places just blew us away. Anyone that has seen them would know what I am talking about. Those that have not had an opportunity must put them on your list of things to do. We spent two days in Sedona and two days here in Williams, AZ which is the closest town to the Grand Canyon (about 50 miles).

Williams has an interesting history in that the old Route 66 runs right through the town. Today we took a drive to Sycamore Canyon Vista that is a smaller version of the Grand Canyon. It was a real challenge to get to it in that we had to travel on a Forrest road for 17 miles. A Forrest road is quite bumpy so speeds average about 10 to 15 mph. We were the only ones that made the trip today as we saw no one on the way to the Point nor anyone on the way back. If that was not enough time on a dirt road we also took a trip up a mountain road to get to Bill Williams Mountain. The road was about as rough as one could ride on and serpentine for a full five miles. This was a real white knuckle drive going up and even worse going down. The views from the top of the mountain were spectacular so it was worth the drive.

Tomorrow we leave for LA to see Adam, Alma, and Amanda. We look forward to having some idle time for a few days (or weeks). More in a few days.

Miles of smiles.

Charlie, Andrea and AngelCharlie Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00320941161923722315noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2477120335318979430.post-41740175359506292222008-09-05T16:52:00.000-07:002008-09-05T17:26:26.282-07:00LA BoundSo what has happened with the Murphy's since our last posting in April? Time goes by so fast that it is like a blur. We sold our motorhome back in early July as operating costs were getting a little out of our comfort range. We will be looking for a travel trailer at some point in time to replace the motorhome as we do miss camping and the great people we seem to always meet.

I am writing this blog in our hotel in Amarillo, Texas as we head out to California to see Andrea's son Adam, his wife Alma and baby Amanda. We left yesterday at 7:30 AM in our new SUV. We had traded our Saturn VUE SUV for a Chevy Trail Blazer as we needed to up the size and horse power to be able to tow a travel trailer. As it turns out it is a good thing we upgraded as we have the car packed to the rafters. This is how the Clampett's would have packed if they had an SUV instead of a pickup.

We plan on taking a little side trip to Sedona, AZ tomorrow before continuing our trek to LA as this is something Andrea has wanted to do for many years. Our goal is to be in LA by the 9th or 10th. At this point we don't have a set agenda for our visit here in LA. We have some family and friends that we want to see before we start heading back to the east coast, so no real time line has been established. Perhaps a few weeks or so. I will update the BLOG as events unfold.

Miles of smiles.

Charlie & Andrea and of course AngelCharlie Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00320941161923722315noreply@blogger.com1
